Victorian 15ct Yellow Gold Hat Pin W/ Pearls & Ruby - 1870s - 80.0mm - Antique Solid 15ct yellow gold (brass pin) Hallmarked “15” has other hallmarks which are hard to make out. They are set out in an English assay marking format. The hat pin is in very good condition for its age. It is showing a few fine scratches and wear. It was plated in a thick layer of 22ct gold which has mostly worn away. The hat pin is a shield shape. Handmade and estimated to date to the 1870s. The main stone on this pin is a natural ruby. The two secondary stones are both natural seed pearls. The stones have all been tested and they were confirmed to be natural and free from colour enhancements. The ruby has an old European cut and has an estimated carat weight of 0.03cts. All of the stones are original to the hat pin. The ruby has a tiny chip on it. None of the stones are loose and none are missing. The gold purity of this hat pin has been tested and it was confirmed to be solid 15ct yellow gold (62.5% purity) The pin / stick was tested and it was confirmed to be brass. Most hat pins would have either a brass or silver pin as those materials are stronger than gold. The hat pin has never undergone any repairs. It has had no modifications made to it either. There are noticeable scratches on the hat pin which has scratched through the 22ct gold coating. The hat pin is 80.0mm in length. The pin is 1.4mm in diameter. The shield is 12.3mm in width and 17.8mm in length. Weight shown in photos.
