Antique Hatpin Description and Notes: Uncommon Antique Hatpin Silver Cross Known as Potent or Crutch Cross Collectible No cracks, dents. A cross potent, also known as a crutch cross, is a form of heraldic cross with crossbars at the four ends. In French, it is known as croix potencée, in German as a Krückenkreuz, all translating to "crutch cross". The head is in excellent condition, solid connection, sterling. Stem is strong/straight. Marked: 935 (higher silver content than sterling) M E & CO. Overall, excellent condition. Date: late 1800s to early 1900s. Total Hatpin Length: 9" Head dimension: 5/8" x 5/8". Great Collectible.
