Description

An absolutely gorgeous, rare to find antique Victorian or early Edwardian hat pin with a top designed in a very intricate metal openwork. The base of the top is done in fine filigree followed by a ring of metal "frills" in the style of ruff collars of the 17th century and crowned with a large domed glass insert in deep blue colour imitation sapphire. The design is complete with two dainty dangle drops, also in openwork filigree. An absolutely stunning design with lots of intricate techniques on display! The top measures 2cm top to bottom and 2.5cm in diameter. Total length 11cm. Dates ca.1880-1900 approximately. Condition: there is rust on the pin commensurate with age; the top used to be gold plated but this is now worn out; there may be tiny scuffs on the glass insert; generally the hat pin is in excellent condition for its age and will make a great display; please refer to the photos for detail.
