Description
"Fanny Brice: Rare and Unreleased Recordings" CD (curated by Chip Deffaa). This new collection gathers rare and previously unreleased recordings by Brice. This album, along with the recently released companion volume, "Fanny Brice--The Real Funny Girl" (which is also available on Ebay), offers the most complete overview of Brice's gifts as a comedienne and singer available anywhere. This set includes some of Brice's most famous numbers--such as "I'd Rather Be Blue Over You," "I'm an Indian," "My Man," and "Second-Hand Rose." But these are unique, alternate versions--found on no other albums--not the recordings that have often been reissued. And they capture vividly Brice's great heart and spirit. Brice puts across with aplomb both torch songs and comic songs. The set also includes a couple of classic "Baby Snooks" sketches. Joining Brice on select tracks are Frank Morgan (best remembered as "the Wizard" in "The Wizard of Oz"), Hanley Stafford, and Don Wilson. This CD has been curated and annotated by Chip Deffaa, an expert on Brice and the vaudeville era. (More of Brice's work can be found on the CD "Chip Deffaa's Broadway and Vaudeville Legends," also available on Ebay.) Deffaa also wrote and directed the acclaimed Off-Broadway show, "One Night with Fanny Brice."
