Antique Hat Pin Description and Notes: "Sweetheart" hat pins were proudly worn in honor of the ladies' husband, father, son, brother, and beau. The buttons were part or their uniform, and easily recognized by friends, relatives, military personnel , and neighbors. Cornell University is a private Ivy League land-grant research university based in Ithaca, New York. The university was founded in 1865 by Ezra Cornell and Andrew Dickson White. Since its founding, Cornell has been a co-educational and nonsectarian institution. Notable graduates: Ruth Ginsburg, Bill Nye. The head is in excellent, rich patina, solid connection, brass. Stem is straight/strong. Marked on back: New York Mark Cowen & Co. Marked on face: Cornell University. Overall, excellent. Date: late 1800s to early 1900s.
