Antique Hatpin Description and Notes: "Sweetheart" hatpins were proudly worn in honor of the ladies' husband, father, son, brother, and beau who served in the military of various nations, especially during the time of war. The buttons were part or their uniform, and easily recognized by friends, relatives, military personnel , and neighbors.
