Antique Hatpin Description and Notes Antique Hatpin Lacquered Ebony Cattail Rhinestone Peace & Prosperity Collectible According to Victorian tradition, in the “language of flowers,” cattails are a symbol of peace and prosperity. The presentation of a cattail stalk as a gift served as an offering of peace in hopes of ending a conflict. No cracks or chips. The head (ornament) is in excellent condition, wood, rhinestone. The shaft is straight/strong, solid connection. No observable marks. Overall, excellent condition. Date: late 1800s to early 1900s. Total Hatpin Length: 14 1/8" Head length: 3" Width: 3/4".
