Antique Hatpin Description and Notes: Antique Hatpin Carnival Glass "Flying Bat" High Iridescence Symbolic Collectible No cracks, chips. A bat symbolizes communication, inner depth, illusion, journeying, swiftness, vibration, initiation, dream, camouflage, good luck, surprise, fear, challenge, keen observation, free-spiritedness, and intuition. Living in earth’s interiors, it embodies both rebirth and death, with the latter trait signifying a termination of something like bad habits. There is great debate among carnival glass collectors about non iridescent items. In the hatpin world, a carnival glass hatpin may or may not have iridescent. (Refer to Dave Doty's webpage and do read the captions he has on the carnival glass hatpins. He is an expert in the carnival glass world. This hatpin does have iridescent and vibrants various hues. The head is in excellent condition, solid connection, slight/normal rim nicks. Stem is straight/strong. No marks observed . Overall, excellent condition. Date: late 1800s to early 1900s.
