Description
One of the finest stick pins I’ve ever seen. It’s heavy weighing 9 grams of solid 14k gold. Blazing green emerald eyes, and a quality diamond mouth. The leopard is portrayed in great detail on a shield background. The pin was made by the Philadelphia based firm of Bailey, Banks, & Biddle. I believe their pieces were better than that of Tiffany & Co. on average. Even if not better they were certainly on par with Tiffany & Co. and Shreve, Crump, & Low. I’d put this piece as being made 1870’s-1920 or so. Likely on the earlier end. I don’t know a lot about emeralds but these stones look special. They glow like none I’ve ever held. The pin has a very nice locking stopper/clutch. The auctioneer I originally bought this piece from believed the clutch was also solid gold. It isn’t marked and I haven’t tested it. If they were right that is another 1.5 grams of 14k gold. It’s the nicest clutch I’ve seen on a stick pin so I wouldn’t be surprised if they were right. This piece will ship ASAP! Thanks I will be listing quite a few stick pins in the coming weeks. Many gold and some silver. Please check back. Thanks
