Description

ANTIQUE Hand Carved SHELL CAMEO Stickpin Vintage Hat Cravat STICK PIN This lovely shell cameo stick pin has been hand carved from Sardonyx shell and shows nice detail. The head of the stick pin is gold-plated or gold-fill metal and the cameo is bezel set. The pin stem is more of a white metal and has the older ridged design centrally which held the pin in place on the clothing and was commonly found in Victorian era stick pins. Both ladies and gentlemen wore these with men wearing them mainly on their cravats. The stick pin measures about 2-1/4 inches long and the head is 3/4 inch by about 9/16 inch. It is unmarked for metal content or maker. Some expected age related wear overall to the metal front and back with a small bit plating loss on the front around the lower portion of the bezel (not nearly as noticeable as pictures depict). The cameo looks good with light surface scratches. Typically, Sardonyx shell was thick and I don't see any chips or cracks.
